The numerous descriptions of the beach in the novel "The Stranger" by Albert Camues reflect the various moods of the protagonist in the form of a psychogeography, a projection of his own emotional states onto the surrounding landscape. The boundaries between inner and outer experience, between encounters with others and self-perception become blurred.
I used the technique of erasure poetry to emphasise words and phrases from the beach description. I then entered these erasures into the AI image editing programme DALLE. The programme created images which I then edited and collaged.
The artistic method of Erasure Poetry emphasises hidden, suppressed and unspoken meanings in what is left by working with gaps and omissions.
